How to Create Fiscal Positions ( OS Partner / Wholesale, Online, InterCompany Customers)

In Odoo, fiscal positions are used for replacing default taxes configured in products. The replacement shall be customer-specific, provided the customer is configured with a fiscal position. The mapping related to the replacement or swapping would be defined in the fiscal position record. It is a list of all currently activated taxes and a set of rules that applies specific taxes according to the location and business type of your partner. It is a registry of all applicable taxes per country.

To create a fiscal position,

1. Go to Accounting Module > Configuration > Fiscal Positions.

2. From there, click on CREATE.

Initially, you can add the name of the Fiscal Position. Also, you can now maximize the features through these two available tabs.

  • Tax Mapping: Having the specific taxes for each account, once you selected this certain fiscal position for a specific contact, the tax mapping you added to the second column will then be applied for that particular contact. In this example, once we map Sales - NZ online as the fiscal position to a customer, the tax to apply will be GST_(15.0 % excluded)_ALT (NZ) (Sales) instead of GST Inc Sale (15%) (Sales).

  • Account Mapping: Instead of using the default account for a certain product, once this Fiscal Position is selected for a particular contact, the "account to use instead" will be applied accordingly.

3. Once done, don't forget to "SAVE".

To apply for the created fiscal position,

1. Go to Contacts Module > then search for the contact you wish to apply for the fiscal position.

2. By going to the "Sales & Purchase" Tab, select the fiscal position accordingly.

3. Once done, click on "SAVE" & "CONFIRM".

4. Once you create a transaction related to that particular contact, you will see that the Taxes and Accounts are updated based on the fiscal position applied instead of using the default account and taxes of the product.
